Which Printer is Right for You?

The two printer models have the same components and operate the same. The big difference is the paper sizes that can be supported. The main tray of the SG1000 can handle up to A3/Tabloid size paper while the SG500 can support up to A4/Legal size paper. In addition, you can purchase a bypass tray for either printer. The bypass tray, for either the SG500 or SG1000, is an additional paper tray that sits at the rear of the printer and allows you print onto normally unsupported or larger page sizes. The SG1000 will allow you to print larger than A3 such as A3+/ 13”x19” and the SG500 will allow you to print longer than 8.5”x14”. You can also purchase larger extended size cartridges for the SG1000 that hold more ink.

The European version of the SG500 will print up to Letter or A4 sized paper from its main tray whereas the North American version will print up Legal sized paper from its main tray. To print longer sizes you will need to purchase a bypass tray.

The SG1000 will print up to A3 or 11”x17” sized paper from the main tray. To print larger sizes, you will need to purchase a bypass tray.

For the SG500 and SG1000, at a minimum, you must have a Windows 8 or Mac 10.13 computer equipped with either an Intel or AMD processor.
